Vercel Now Lets You Sign In With ChatGPT

What changed

“Continue with ChatGPT” now appears alongside Vercel’s other sign-in options on the Vercel and v0 sign-up and sign-in pages. The connection also runs the other direction: a developer who adds the Vercel plugin inside ChatGPT can sign in to Vercel and grant team and project permissions without leaving the chat window. Existing team-level requirements, including two-factor authentication and SSO, still apply on top of it, and the method is a beta, not a full replacement for existing logins. Anyone who connects it can re-authenticate or disconnect ChatGPT from their account’s Authentication settings (Vercel changelog, July 29, 2026).

The feature is part of a wider OpenAI rollout, not a Vercel-only experiment. OpenAI’s release notes describe Sign in with ChatGPT going out in beta “across select plugins and partner sites, starting with Airtable, GitLab, HubSpot, Notion, Supabase, and Vercel.” Signing in this way shares only a name, email and profile picture with the partner; access to any specific plugin still needs its own separate approval (OpenAI, ChatGPT Release Notes). Our take

This is an optional, disconnectable beta login button, not a mandatory migration. But look at what kind of company just joined Google, Apple, Microsoft and GitHub as an identity provider for developer platforms. Those four control an operating system, a device ecosystem, an enterprise directory or the world’s default code host, so each already had a plausible claim on a developer’s identity before offering to manage it. OpenAI’s claim is a chat product. That’s a new kind of default, and every account tied to it is one more login an outage, a policy change or a compromised OpenAI account can take down. It’s convenient today. A team weighing whether to standardize on it should factor in that OpenAI has been an identity provider for one day.
