Python on Vercel Is Generally Available, With Six SDKs
Vercel declared Python support generally available on Oct. 15, with automatic FastAPI, Flask and Django detection and six Python SDKs.

Vercel said Oct. 15 that Python is now generally available on its platform, with automatic detection of FastAPI, Flask, Django and FastHTML and six Python SDKs for storage, queues, durable workflows and AI models (Vercel blog, Oct. 15, 2026).
What shipped
Vercel’s post, written by Yury Selivanov, said the platform reads dependency files, including those managed by uv, then configures the build and request routing for the detected framework. Apps run on Fluid compute, Vercel’s concurrent-request compute model.
The six SDKs cover AI (the AI SDK for Python), Sandbox, Workflow, Queues, Blob and Connect. Vercel said the APIs use type annotations, async/await and context managers so they feel familiar to Python developers.
For projects that pair a frontend with a Python backend, Vercel Services runs both in one project. Vercel said vercel dev starts both locally and a single preview deployment covers both. Vercel said they can be released or rolled back together.
Long-running workers that pull jobs from queues or databases go on Vercel Daemons, which run in containers. Vercel’s changelog the same day listed Daemons as a public beta.
The Demo and the Investment
Vercel built a collaborative notebook app with a Vite frontend, a FastAPI backend and PostgreSQL. Code runs in Vercel Sandboxes, published notebooks are stored in Blob, and the AI assistant runs inside Workflows. The source is in the vercel-labs/notebook-factory repository.
The post also laid out Vercel’s investment in the language. Selivanov’s team, formerly Gel Data, joined Vercel last December. Vercel sponsors the Python Software Foundation and is funding one year of CPython maintenance by Serhiy Storchaka, who Vercel said has made more than 600 commits to CPython’s main branch this year.
The Take
This is the follow-through on a pattern Firerun has tracked since July, when Vercel Functions began running backends from a Dockerfile. Vercel is no longer a frontend host with a few server functions attached. It now wants the backend, the workers and the agent runtime in the same project.
The pitch is one workflow for both halves of an app. Teams running a Python API elsewhere should test it against their current host.
Key Takeaways
- Python is generally available on Vercel as of Oct. 15, 2026, with FastAPI, Flask, Django and FastHTML detected automatically.
- Six Python SDKs cover AI, Sandbox, Workflow, Queues, Blob and Connect.
- Vercel Daemons, for long-running workers, is a public beta.
- Vercel’s demo pairs a Vite frontend with a FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL, Sandboxes and Workflows in one project.
